"I was playing in college at UNC-Charlotte at the time, and I remember
very vividly standing at the 18-yard line and hearing a deafening crash
behind me. The goal had blown over. It was a perfect sunny day, not a
cloud in the sky, and if I was standing closer to the goal then I may
not be here today. It's clear that Goal Alert addresses this very valid
concern and creates a safer environment for the players."
- Jon Busch, Chicago Fire Goalkeeper, 2008 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year
"As an eighteen year advocate for increased awareness of the dangers of
portable soccer goals, I understand the importance of safety when
playing and practicing soccer. A concern largely unknown outside the
soccer community is improperly anchored soccer goals. My son was killed
by an unsafe goalpost in 1991 in Witham, England. Soccer goal tip-over
injuries and deaths are a danger that leagues and clubs should be aware
of and fear, unfortunately this has not put an end to these extremely
high consequence accidents. In my country, I have attempted to have
legislation introduced that will make the soccer community and the
public at large more aware of the dangers improperly anchored goals
present. I believe a goal-to-ground monitoring device will accomplish
this lifesaving task by exposing the hidden danger we all fear and
providing a backup anchor, just in case. For these reasons, I believe
such a device is a step in the right direction towards making soccer a
safer sport and I fully endorse its use."
